WELCOME, WELCOME!

I’m the worst at explaing things and sometimes my english gets in the way, but I guess I’ll make it.

I’ll be using The KMPlayer and Photoshop Cs5 (I don’t have a link to download, I’m sorry).

For starters you must open the video on the player, and then set the video to reproduce the bit you want to gif, like this (whoa there it’s my screen):

(the pictures are tiny so I made some big and ugly arrows so that you know what I’m talking about)

Then press Ctrl+G and this window should appear:

Just leave the settings like they are here. Also, set a specific file where you want to send your frames to, because it can get really messy once you start making lost of GIFs.

After setting everything, you should press “Start” (it’s “iniciar” on mine because my player is in portuguese) and then press play on the player. The caps will be taken while the video is being reproduced.

And now comes the fun part (well, almost).

Open Photoshop and press File > Scripts > Load Files Into Stack, like this (I drew a heart bc that’s what changes everything):

Then you click on Browse, select the frames you want and press Ok. This might take a while, depending on how many frames you choose.

After you’re all set, your screen should look like this:

Then you’ll click on the little arrow over which I made a circle (below pic) and press Make Frames From Layers. Sometimes the frames are in the opposite order, so all you have to do is click on that arrow again and press Reverse Frames. Instructive picture here:

Once you did this and the frames showed up, you’ll click on the arrow again and press Select All Frames to set the delay time of all the frames at once (otherwise the GIF will be too quick and you certainly don’t want that). Here’s where you can set the delay time (set it to 0,05):

Well, after all that, your GIF is ready. I mean, the basic is done. Don’t forget that even though the limit size was increased to 1MB, the width still must be 500px or less.

NOW TIME FOR SOME COLORING TIPS:

The darker the GIF, the lighter the size, keep that in mind. Sometimes it will be impossible to darken the picture, though. But it’s a good tip.
Choose changing the luminosity of the scene with levels instead of curves, I don’t know why, but curves make the GIF heavier.
Selective Colors is also an amazing tool for coloring (the best lbr), since you can change one specific color at a time. Each picture is different, so there aren’t many things I can say about it. Try to avoid making the picture too green and playing around with the blacks can help you with the GIF size. The rest is up to you.
Now use your imagination!

EXTRA HELP (sharpening the GIF):

Well, no, you don’t have to sharpen each frame to get a sharpened GIF. Isn’t the internet great?

What you have to do is Convert to Timeline Animation. Oh, God, where? Here:

After that, right-click any of the layers (not frames!) and click on Select Similar Layers:

Then go to Filters and click on Convert for Smart Filters:

It has to be done in this order, otherwise it won’t work!

Anddddd, voilà! Now you can sharpen your GIF as much as you want (or use another filter), by clicking on Filters again and then Sharpen (I recommend Smart Sharpen because you set how sharpened you want your GIF to be).

One last thing: If you want a high-quality GIF, try to use a high-quality video. Photoshop can’t make miracles!

And that’s all, I guess. The result of my GIF-making is on my sidebar!
